- John 11:25: “Jesus said unto Martha, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.”
- Revelation 1:17-18: “Don’t be afraid! I am the First and Last. I am the living one. I died, but look–I am alive forever and ever!”
God love y’all
Anonymole 4:4:21:1 “And although your consciousness will dissolve into the void, know that the components that comprise your corporeal being will persist into the infinite emptiness, forever.”
Anonymole 4:4:21:2 “There are few remedies to assuage the unfathomable feeling of helplessness when considering the oblivion that awaits all beings, however, ice cream provides some solace, as does beer. Mostly beer.”

You’re a devotee of Lucretius, right? If my memory serves me (it’s been a scary long time since I studied this), Lucretius was an Epicurean. Yet I believe I’ve heard you speak favorably of Stoicism. Perhaps it’s time for a synthesis? On the other hand, someone else may already have, but it’s worth a shot.

Titus was the dude! ‘Course, much of his On the Nature of Things came from discussions with his buddies. Epicurus got it most right, I think.
Seneca was a stick in the mud. And all the Stoics seemed to not take the futility of existence into account.
Monty Python says it best, though. “Always look on the bright side of death.”

I remember liking Seneca. Makes sense now.

As a Lector I preferred the Old Testament. When prophets had the nuts to argue with God. However… my favorite Easter homily came from the Paulist Father Tom at St. Austin’s, a bastardization of St. Augustine. He stood, welcomed everyone to Easter Mass, said he remembered as a kid how everybody couldn’t wait to get out, get to the candy and Sunday lunch on Easter. So for all of you who are who I was, here’s the homily. Pay attention. Ain’t it great to have Jesus up and walking around again. Happy Easter!
So… Happy Easter!

You know, in my opinion, the OT has many overlooked stories that predate later iterations. King David had a King Arthur problem. Samson? The original Rambo. And if you need a quick book title, just flip through–East of Eden, A Time to Kill, Absalom Absalom!, The Sun Also Rises.
Phil, I’ve always said you’re a good guy. Some people wouldn’t be able to resist.

Happy Easter. Thank you for sharing these verses from the Bible. Not being a Christian I found them interesting.
The Jesus story of being crucified, is one I have watched on TV. It is sad that man betray him. That priest’s so threatened by him. Let this an awful thing happen.
Why is Easter called Easter? My ignorance here.
Hope you are having a lovely Easter and I guess at this holy time it’s a beautiful time for reflection and enlightenment.

I’m glad we always share things from our traditions 🙂. I believe there’s wisdom to be found everywhere if we look for it.
I’m embarrassed to say I had to look up what the word “Easter” means. It seems it goes back to the name of a pre-Christian goddess in Anglo-Saxon. I was surprised to learn this. There’s so many holiday traditions in the world that have nothing to do with the actual religion. I think they come from the ancient culture and celebrations of the original places.
Thanks for your kind wishes.

It’s Easter Monday. I hope you’re having a lovely day. It’s nice to go to a service whenever one feels like it. And after that, you can relax and watch a fun show with a big bowl of popcorn. There are so many dramas that I’ve missed. Must find the time to catch up. Big hugs.

I’m lucky that I have a lot of options where I live.
I also have a viewing backlog. I’m paying for Hulu for nothing. I’m catching up and cancelling.

Good. I have an Amazon subscription that has made catching up quite convenient. But I haven’t been able to relax and stare at a screen. Also, real life is giving us plenty of material.

I’m embarrassed to say it’s mostly corny retro stuff that I will never discuss with anyone in the world.

You’d better find a way to tell me so I can have some fun, too.

You wouldn’t, believe me. You have taste. I make no bones about being pedestrian. 🤫🤫
